I'm Taking a Workshop with...

Sue Spargo!

Sue is most definitely my favorite quilt teacher. I love her vibrant colors and her whimsical designs. I especially love the beautiful embroidery stitches she uses to embellish her wool quilts. If you are not familiar with Sue, check out her website for some really wonderful and fun quilts!
 Her work is truly stunning!

The workshop is next Monday and Tuesday(2 whole days! Squeeee!!!).
The project is called bird on a branch.

There is some pre-work to be completed before class begins.

This little guy, my favorite pincushion will be coming with me.

As will all of these supplies.

So I have to get busy and get my pre-work finished. The bckground is pieced together and then I have to applique the tree, bird, leaves and berries.

So excited!!

New Art!

I joined LIFEBOOK 2015 this year and boy am I loving it! I am learning so much and every Monday new artsy goodness in my inbox! Yay!

I am not really interested in the self help and healing stuff- I admit I usually skip over that jazz. I am just not a person with a lot of angst, and I love my catholic faith, so it doesn't really appeal to me. But I am sure it is great for a lot of people, and anything that helps people be happier and create more beautiful art is a positive in my book.
Just not enough of that in the world!

So anyways, on to the eye candy:

All of the above are January art journal entries.. I probably should really call is ART PRACTICE, because as you can see I'm not really a big journaler in terms of words. I really am just practicing my skills and trying new techniques. It is more art exploration for me.

This one above  is from the Documented Life Project. And again, this is the only planner page I have made all year so far. I'm not much of a planner person. I love creating the page but then I'm done and I never go back to it. Ha!

And this little beauty is called
"Longing"
This little girl was originally done in an art journal. I loved her so much I did her again on larger watercolor paper.
Fabriano Artistico Hot Press 140lb
to be exact. My favorite paper OF ALL TIME!!!

OK I don't want to over burden this post with pics. I will try to keep adding more to get caught up.

Queene of Hearts and update!

Its almost time for some new folk art and I haven't even had a chance to post a pic of my last doll,
Queene of Hearts!
She is sold but I thought you might enjoy some pictures:

Still for sale are my collage hearts. These are great little bowl fillers all year round and they each feature a loving little word. I love filling my home with things that make me smile at a glance, don't you?

For sale at PFATT Marketplace until March 10.

I have been SO remiss in updating my blog. I will try to do better.
Mostly I have been painting like a crazy woman! I am absolutely obsessed with mixed media painting-mostly girls. I have always loved doing faces, I'm sure that is a big part of what attracted me to dollmaking so many years ago. I find that painting has informed my dollmaking in a very  satisfying way. My doll faces are becoming more vibrant, which I am loving.
With painting, I also am able to explore color in a really exciting way. As the years went on I found I was unable to limit myself to the primitive palette.
Don't get me wrong,
I have always loved primitives, and still do.
But as an artist I eventually found them limiting.
What is man but a being who must change and grow, right?

If you would like to see my paintings and whats going on in my studio follow me on Instagram. I post almost every day!

Hugs to you and stay warm, spring is right around the corner!!

Art Journal All In!

I have been journaling like a mad woman!
Yes!
After taking about 6 months off I found myself ready to dive back in, and it seems my art has made a LEAP!
All of the sudden it is just flowing and I am liking it! Yes liking it!
I am liking what I am creating for the first time in FOREVER!!

Fairy Queene of Hearts

Hey guys!
Happy 2015!!

Just wanted to pop in and let you know I've got a new doll for sale coming up on the
Yay!!

This is my Fairy Queene of Hearts!
She is a perfect mash up of my two current obsessions-mixed media paintings and cloth dolls!

I have been painting and art journaling a lot lately. But I still really enjoy working on dolls.
I just love doing faces, either on dolls or in a journal.
Here are some of my painted faces:

They are so much fun to do!
These are from my art journal, but I hope to do some as paintings for sale soon.
Here's another one:
This is a painting I made for one of my kids for Christmas.
It is layers of collage and paint on watercolor paper.
See the circuit board in the background?
When I found that I knew it was perfect because my son (who I painted this for)
is a computer engineer.
This painting is about creatures and their longing for their maker.
My son loved it!
Hope to see you on PFATT On the 10th!

Blessings,
Annie
