A finish and a WIP

I finished Primitive Stocking by CHS. The picture doesn't show the true color of the fabric.

Here is a close up.
This one shows the fabric color a little better.

And here is my WIP of houses which I had a little time to work on over the weekend. I am loving this with the 2 strand coverage.

A little progress

OR...a VERY little progress! I have mostly been model stitching, which I can't show, yet!. Here is a little I have gotten done on This is the Day:

Not much to go, just filling in the white and the over 1 words in the box!

And here is a little bit more of Houses of Hawk Run Hollow. I wish I had more time to work on this! I am loving it so much now that I have switched to 32 and 2 strands. I took it with me on vacation, but you know how THAT goes!!:)

Roma tomato seedlings and HRH

Lookie my cute little tomato sprouts!! These are Roma tomatos, which I plan to use to make and can my own spaghetti sauce. It is still cold and wet around here, it seems spring will never come, but May is just around the corner, so I need to get some more things started!

I don't know how I got a single stitch in yesterday! It seems as though every time I sat down to stitch I had to get right back up again to tend to something; the kids, laundry, etc. Sometimes the "fun" never ends around here!! (BGG)

Happy Easter Monday!

I see I have not posted since last Wednesday, since the start of the Easter Triduum. What a glorious Holy Week I had! I am an Easter zealot, that's for sure! I did not miss a single mass or service this year, which is a lot of church time. We brought 20 new converts into the church on Saturday night, it was glorious!
And now, fired up and filled with the Holy Spirit I am renewed and ready to get to work! I still have my kiddos home today, but they will be back in school tomorrow and the Online Needlework Show begins on Wednesday, so this will be a busy and happy week!

I did not get much time to stitch over the weekend, we were just too busy. But I did work a little bit on Houses. I have the models for my 2 newest designs completed(they will premier at the show on Wednesday)so I was able to work on Houses guilt-free! LOL! I do need to get started on new designs though, no rest for the weary!

I worked on my canvas work piece and got it almost all done until I ran out of the navy blue Neon Rays fiber. So I will have to pick up one of those to finish it.

Houses Block 7 finished!!

Yippee! Now I am on to block 3, directly above this one. I decided to do block 3 next because (if you remember I have started this over due to thin coverage on my first attempt) this way I will be able to compare the two. So far I am happy with this new block, it is graphic and pretty!

Houses

Well, I had hoped to get more done, but my hubby wanted to watch "The Passion of the Christ" last night, and I found that I could NOT stitch during that movie. What a great movie though, and gets me in the right frame of mind to begin Holy Week next week~my favorite time of year! Better than Christmas! I am on the Right of Christian Initiation(RCIA) team at my parish, which means we prepare people to come into the catholic church. I am so grateful to be on the team, I have learned more this year than I ever would have guessed. It is so exciting to see people so enthusiastic about the faith, and wanting to learn. It has been a really rewarding experience for me.
Anyhow, here is my progress on HOHRH. I don't know when I will get to work on it again, I have a LOT of stitching and printing to do this week. I am hoping to get my new designs ready for the Online Needlework show, and the deadline in on Easter!!

Houses

Today is Sunday, and in observance of the Lord's day, I don't do any model stitching or work related to my business at all. So...I get to work on Hawk Run Hollow all day! Yippee! This is my starting point, and I will take a pic tomorrow morning to show how much I've completed. Hopefully it will be a lot, if I can keep the family distractions to a minimum!

A little more on Houses

I am really enjoying working on this! I wish I had more time to do so. I have 2 new designs coming out in April, hopefully in time for the Online Needlework Show. One is complete and just needs the rest of the charting done, and the other I am still stitching~yikes! It has a hemstitch border, and I haven't even gotten to that point yet! But its hard because as some other bloggers put it, I am "jonesing" for Hohrh! I just want this one finished and on my wall right now!!(can you hear the whine!) hehe!

My kids are home on spring break this week, which is really nice on the one hand, they sleep in! Also they are getting older and I know how much I'm going to miss them when they all go their separate ways. So I try to spend as much time with them as possible while still getting all of my work done. So far we have had all cold and wet weather. So much for getting out and doing some yard work this week!

My progress on the new Hawk Run Hollow!

I actually started this a few days ago when I got my new piece of linen. It is on 32ct. Sand Belfast with 2 threads of AVAS. I'm sure I will run out of AVAS but I will just have to replenish as needed. I am very happy with the coverage now.

Epiphany about my Houses of Hawk Run Hollow

Last night I went to my embroiderer's guild, and a lady there was working on Shores of Hawk Run Hollow. She was working it on 32ct. mushroom lugana with 2 strands of DMC. It was outragiously beautiful!!!I felt inspired to pull Houses out again when I got home, and when I did my heart sank. I realized why I have been working this so slowly and why it is not a satisfying stitch. I have been working it on 40ct. with 1 strand of silk. The coverage is really skimpy, and the fabric shows through. It looks awful. It does not have that graphic folky look like it should. I never realized it until I saw how beautiful hers was. Man!

What to do!

Do I start completely over? I only have 4 1/2 houses done, so it is not an unthinkable idea. Actually I have already decided that I AM going to start over.

Do I use 2 strands of the Soie D'Alger I have been using, and then replenish when I run out? Clearly I will not have enough for 2 strands, so this is going to be an issue. Or should I switch to good ole DMC. I can always use the silk somewhere else.I am definitely goin to stitch Shores and Village at some point, and after seeing hers in DMC, I think it looks beautiful. Hmmmm.

progress on Houses

Yesterday I spent the whole day cleaning the house from top to bottom. It always feels so good when everything is clean. The kids messed it up again in no time, but once clean it is a lot easier to put back in order. I rewarded myself by spending the evening stitching and doing the never-ending mountain of laundry. In fact, I even struck floor down there in the laundry room!

Here is my progress on Houses of Hawk Run Hollow. I simply adore this project. The colors are so primitive and bold. Kathy really has a wonderful sense of color, and it is fun to explore her pallette. For instance, on the second house, that yellow that outlines the windows I would never have touched with a 10 foot pole. I mean it is the yuckiest yellow ever! But paired with everything else, the end result is just fantastic! I am stitching this exactly as charted. I never feel the need to change anything Kathy has done, I really trust her design sense.
